Zeelander is building what it promises will be its fastest-ever yacht, a 55-footer with twin 1,000-horsepower Volvo Penta IPS1350s that reportedly will hit 42 knots when she launches this summer.
“In order to install the new motors, we have further increased the hull strength around the engine room and additional lamination thickness from bow to midship according to new strength calculations,” Leonardo van den Berg, commercial director at Zeelander Yachts, stated in a press release. “Despite the engines [being] more powerful than what we used before, it does not affect the high level of comfort on board. The new yacht is the quietest one, just like a Rolls-Royce on water.”
Cruising speed is expected to be 34 knots. To reduce noise, Zeelander added rubber matting to the chine and upgraded the engine-room insulation.
Also on board are a 23-square-foot swim platform, complete with a bar and swim ladder; a 100-horsepower Williams tender; and two Seabobs.
What’s the base price for the Z55? About $2.6 million with twin IPS950s. With the twin IPS1350s, the base price is about $2.8 million.
