Zeelander Yachts is preparing for the world debut of the 48-foot Zeelander 5 at the Palm Beach International Boat Show, which will be held March 23-26 in Florida.
The Zeelander 5 is an evolution of the Dutch shipyard’s Z44, with a more contemporary look that has more of an elongated S shape as well as larger windows in the wheelhouse and hull. There are no longer mullions around the helm, giving skippers true 360-degree views.
Also new are a door and window that can be closed to fully shelter the wheelhouse from the elements.
“We have learned from our owners,” Zeelander founder and owner Sietse Koopmans stated in a press release. “Dozens of small improvements and a few bigger strides forward have combined to give the Zeelander 5 improved functionality in the service of a refined, timeless character.”
Additional features include boarding doors in the bulwarks, a new foredeck sun pad and a swim platform nearly twice the size of the one on the Z44. The master stateroom now has a separate shower and head.
Let’s talk performance: The shipyard says the Zeelander 5 has a top speed of 40 knots, driven by triple Volvo Penta IPS650s, with onboard decibel readings quieter than the previous Z44 model.
