Riviera’s sport yacht collection flagship, the 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition, had its American premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. A combination of design elements make the 6800 equally suited for long-distance passages, weekend cruises and dayboating.

The Australian-based builder, whose range of yachts spans 39 to 78 feet length overall, was aiming for a fun entertainment platform when it designed the 6800. The result is a stylish cruiser with a variety of entertainment spaces, from the swim platform to the bow lounge.

Despite its considerable volume, this yacht looks long and low. The nearly 73-foot yacht underwent three years of development and is a collaboration between Riviera’s design group and the award-winning superyacht designer Luca Vallebona.

The broad strokes of the main deck’s interior are simple. The galley-aft layout reinforces the yacht’s entertainment-friendly sensibility by serving the cockpit and salon. The galley is equipped with a three-element induction cooktop, a combination oven with an integrated grill, a range hood, a double sink, a microwave and a dishwasher.

Owners can select from a variety of custom options on board, including Starlink high-speed internet, Praxis solar charging systems, and factory-fitted stabilization—gyroscopic or fin-based. Owners also can opt for a personalized laundry room or a crew cabin, if they’d prefer to have a captain or mate.

Performance is never overlooked on a Riviera, which has to account for the rough waters off the coast of Australia. The 6800’s powerplant package is twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 IPS1350 diesels, which give it a reported 32-knot top hop. The 6800 has a 27-knot fast cruise, at which owners can expect a 450-nautical-mile range. Pulling back on the speed to 10 knots drops the fuel burn below 1 gallon per nautical mile and increases the range to more than 1,100 nm. The yacht’s full-height engine room can be accessed via the transom door or through the master stateroom for daily maintenance checks.

With three or four staterooms, Riviera’s 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition is a yacht built for cruising couples and families who want to welcome friends, have strong performance and relax in onboard comfort.
