At-Sea Adventure with the Highfield Sport 800 RIB

The SUV-like RIB is designed for fun and versatility, with single or twin outboards and a wave-slicing hull form.

The Highfield Sport 800 takes the term “rigid bottom inflatable” seriously. It uses a high-tensile chromated aluminum frame and hull powder-coated and mated with inflatable tubes. The single- or twin-screw RIB can carry 15 people, and its 26-degree deadrise bolsters safety in sloppy seas. Additional niceties include a keel guard, a sturdy rubbing strake, and a brushed foam deck with a teaklike finish.

Whom It’s For: Boaters who want to go anywhere, anytime, without worrying about a composite undercarriage.

Picture This: You’re cruising the San Juan Islands. The main ride is at Roche Harbor Marina, and your Highfield Sport 800 makes short work of the saline separating San Juan Island and Stuart Island. You cruise past Turn Point Lighthouse, Johns Island and the San Juan Islands National Wildlife Refuge before dinner at the Hotel de Haro.
