The Newport International Boat Show is scheduled for September 12-15, and this year’s show has several educational opportunities in addition to lots of new and brokerage yachts for attendees to view.
For starters, the Discover Boating HOST series will allow on-the-water powerboat and sailboat workshops that last from one to three hours apiece. They’ll focus on teaching and improving boating skills, with classes for first-timers as well as experienced skippers. Instructors will be U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captains along with experts from the Recreational Powerboating Association and American Sailing Association.
Want to learn more about reading the weather? On September 15, there will be an introduction to surface weather systems, marine weather charts and more. This course is designed for powerboat owners and sailboat owners alike, with the skills applicable to anyone who wants to improve their forecasting.
During all four days of the Newport show, Sail America’s Discover Sailing program will offer free, 45-minute sessions led by experienced captains in Newport Harbor. Families or individuals can simply go out for a cruise and experience the sailing lifestyle.
Last but not least, West Marine is sponsoring a seminar series throughout the show. Topics will include bluewater cruising, the Bahamas and boating with kids.
