Swan 80 RS rendering
The first Swan 80FD sold in the United States is due to arrive in Newport, Rhode Island, this August. The flush-deck design is scheduled to be on display at the Newport Boat Show in September as well as at the Annapolis Boat Show in October — and she may do some chartering, too.
That’s according to Keith Yeoman, president of Nautor’s Swan USA East. He says the 80FD is the second Swan for the same owner.
Yeoman is next hoping to sell the first-ever Swan 80RS in the United States. It’s a just-introduced model that is due to launch in 2014.
“In 1999, the Swan 80 came out,” he says. “We built about four of them and lengthened it to the 82, which was built as an FD, or flush deck; an S-deck, meaning slightly raised; and an RS deck, or raised saloon. It was an incredibly popular boat. We built about 20 of them. In 2011, we introduced the new Swan 80 with revamping, and it was an FD. It’s now also developed into an S version and the new RS version that is next to come.”
Both the Swan 80FD coming to the States and the forthcoming Swan 80RS are built for performance. They have carbon-fiber hulls, decks, masts and booms. The difference between them is onboard space. The raised-saloon model is for cruisers who are just as interested in creature comforts as performance. She can have four guest cabins instead of three thanks to increased interior volume.
“We don’t give up anything on the performance side with the RS, but we give a lot back on the interior accommodations, interior volume and deck plan,” Yeoman says. “You can still outrun storms when you have a hurricane coming at you, but you also have the creature comforts that you’d expect on a cruising vessel this size.”
