Palm Beach Motor Yachts’ newest model, the GT60, will make its US debut at the 2020 Miami International Boat Show from February 13-17. The 60-footer will be the new flagship in the builder’s GT series’, which launched in 2018 with a 50-foot model.
The GT60 is powered by twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1350 diesels. The builder says early sea trials near its Malaysian factory showed a 35-knot cruising speed at 70 percent engine load, with a total fuel burn of 65 gph. Range is reportedly more than 400 nautical miles. Top speed is reportedly 40-plus knots. The IPS diesels are paired to the pod drives via carbon fiber jack shafts.
Other design and technical features include a vacuum-infused carbon fiber superstructure and deck, reducing overall weight and, in turn, enhancing performance. As for the GT60’s semidisplacement, warped hull form, it’s made of a sandwich e-glass and closed-cell Corecell foam, and all components of the yacht are infused with vinylester resin.
Passengers and crew aboard alike are protected from the elements by a single-piece, curved-glass windshield and electric side and aft windows in the salon on the main deck. There’s also full-beam entertainment spaces in the salon and in the cockpit, outfitted with L-shaped seating in the cockpit and two more sofas in the salon. The helm console is forward and to starboard with two helm chairs.
The galley is down to port with an electric cooktop, a microwave and a fridge/freezer. There are also two guest staterooms with en suite heads: one in the forepeak and one amidships to starboard with the berth positioned athwartships.
CEO Mark Richards called the GT60 “an industry-leading, high-performance cruiser with an unparalleled combination of both speed and fuel efficiency.”
“The GT60 is an absolute dream result that our team worked tirelessly on perfecting for the past 12 months,” Richards said. “To have such a beautiful boat wrapped around a twin-engine system that out-performs similar-sized, competing products that use three engines or twice the horsepower is a truly remarkable achievement.”
