Damen Shipyards, the parent company of Amels in the Netherlands, has launched its eighth 182-foot Yacht Support vessel, called Blue Ocean. Delivery to an owner is available this spring.
Blue Ocean is the first Yacht Support vessel built with a multipurpose main-deck hangar. Damen says it is sized for submersible and dive operations, or for use as a vehicle garage or workshop.
Also on board is a nearly 550-square-foot dive and “adventure” center aft, accessed via the swim platform; a 12-ton deck crane for submersibles and tenders up to about 50 feet length overall; and the ability to have an A-frame installation at the stern.
Eight guests are accommodated in four staterooms, and there are quarters for seven crew and four additional staff such as pilots, guides or security. Guest relaxation areas include the sundeck and main deck lounge.
What are Blue Ocean ’s other key specs? She can reportedly hit 20 knots, with a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. Her draft is about 10 feet, making her suitable for Bahamas cruising.
