The Arcadia Yachts Sherpa XL is currently being built on spec.
The XL is an evolution of the first Sherpa, the builder’s 2016 “pocket megayacht.” Sherpa XL measures 78 feet 1 inch length overall, 18 feet longer than the original Sherpa, and the yacht has a broad-shouldered, 22-foot-9-inch beam.
The XL could potentially serve as a design step toward a whole new concept and line, according to Ugo Pellegrino, director of Arcadia Yachts. “Simply a Sherpa on a larger scale…would have been a quicker and easier solution for us,” Pellegrino says, “but we fully intend to keep our role as innovators.”
Overall, the yacht has 2,368 square feet of space aboard (25 percent more than other yachts her size, the builder says), and it’s all on her semi-planing, fiberglass hull. Hot Lab Yacht & Design in Milan, Italy, who also worked on Arcadia’s A105, penned the XL.
This vessel has three decks, yet it maintains a relatively low profile. The flybridge and hardtop are staggered, set several feet forward of each other and the effect is twofold: First, it elongates the XL’s profile. Secondly, it seemingly lowers it.
Arcadia has eliminated tender launching from the XL’s aft deck as well as the traditional second helm from the flybridge, preferring to devote each space to guests. The yacht’s tender is kept just forward of the engine room and is launched from a side door to starboard, and the flybridge has plenty of space for a bar, making it a prime spot for sundowners.
Depending on owner preference, Sherpa XL can have a 3- or 4-stateroom layout. Should the owner want 4 staterooms, her galley will be in the sky lounge. With 3 staterooms, her galley is down. The belowdecks master stateroom is somewhat loft-style, with its head partially open to the room, and the forward VIP follows suit.
Arcadia is sticking with its green initiative on Sherpa XL, incorporating solar panels onto the yacht. This time, they are atop the sky lounge’s hardtop. The solar panels provide 2kW of electricity.
Additionally, the yacht’s twin 1,050 hp Volvo Penta IPS engines enable a reported 22-knot max speed, and when she’s cruising at 12 knots, she can go 1,000 nautical miles. At 10 knots, her range increases to 1,500 nautical miles, the builder says.
In that 10- to 12-knot range, Arcadia claims the Sherpa XL is 30 to 35 percent more efficient than other yachts in her size range.
