Pershing Yacht has long been known for pushing the boundaries of style and speed, and its new line of X Generation open-style yachts, starting with the 5X, appears to continue that trend. The Italian builder says Hulls No. 1 through 6 were sold months before the 5X debuted at this autumn’s boat shows in Europe and the United States — and Pershing is already promising more X Generation models to come.
Pershing is part of the Ferretti Group, whose product-strategy committee and engineering department worked with designer Fulvio De Simoni to create the Pershing 5X. She has a length overall of 54 feet 2 inches, and a beam of 14 feet 4 inches. Her design includes the cockpit setup that previously had been limited to larger Pershing models, with aerodynamic wings on either side that can separate from, or adjoin, the salon. The feature is intended to make the cockpit space comfortable in almost all weather conditions.
A sliding glass sunroof comes standard, and owners can add a second, fixed glass panel overhead as an option, further adding to the indoor-outdoor experience.
Owners can choose 725 hp Volvo Penta D11 IPS950 diesel engines with Z-drives for a cruising speed of 30 knots and a top end of 36 knots or 1,000 hp CAT 12.9 engines with Top System 75X surface drives to bump those speeds to a 41-knot comfortable cruise and a 45-knot top hop.
Pershing chose the letter X for its new line as a signifier of extreme performance and technological innovation. The 5X sure looks like proof of concept.
