Oyster Yachts has started construction on Hull No. 1 of the Oyster 118, the builder’s largest yacht drawn in partnership with Humphreys Yacht Design.
“We are delighted to build the new Oyster 118 in Britain at our own Southampton facility,” Oyster CEO David Tydeman stated in a press release. “We have been working for nearly three years in close conjunction with Humphreys Yacht Design developing the specification and design, and we’re really proud now to announce the contract to start work. Tooling will commence in April.”
Oyster plans to create female tooling and additional construction facilities, which will let craftsmen begin construction on Hull No. 2 while Hull No. 1 is still in build. With the additional assets, the builder will be able to launch four Oyster 118 yachts before summer 2020.
The Oyster 118’s design is an outgrowth of a previously planned 115-foot model. It features the builder’s seascape hull windows and G5 teardrop glazing to the deck salon. An integral Bimini top and enclosable sedan hardtop are new. Owners can choose the standard stern profile or an alternative, squared version that adds more than three feet to the deck length.
Accommodations on the standard version are for 12 guests with six crew. Hull No. 1 will have five cabins and four heads with an emphasis on the cockpit dining and forward observation areas. Forward on Hull No. 1 will be a space that can convert from a TV room to a kids’ bunk cabin.
The launch of Hull No. 1 is expected in December 2017. Hull No. 2 is being offered at ₤13 million (about $19.3 million) subject to the buyer’s specifications.
