Oyster 885 launch
Two years after revealing plans for her, Oyster is set to premiere its Oyster 885 sloop at the Southampton Boat Show in September. The fact that hull number one belongs to the family trust of Eddie Jordan, the famed former Irish racecar driver and current F1 commentator, should garner more interest for the megayacht model.
Bearing design by Humphreys Yacht Design, the Oyster 885 measures 88’10” (27.08-meter) LOA, including the bowsprit. She was conceived for buyers who want to charter out their yachts. That’s among the reasons why there are a few layout options. For example, the three guest cabins can instead be arranged as two cabins plus a study/lower saloon. Owners also get a choice of a deck saloon or raised saloon. Regardless of choice, the Oyster 885 has a 20’9″ (6.33-meter) beam. And, she offers direct access from the owner’s stateroom to the transom, for what Oyster calls a terrace-on-the-sea effect. Oyster launched the megayacht just a few weeks ago (above).
Also regardless of interior layout, the Oyster 885 has a split cockpit for dining, sundowners, or simply enjoying the scenery while cruising.
The Oyster 885 comes standard with a high-performance-bulb keel, for a draft of 11’6” (3.5 meters). Oyster adds that Humphreys’ hull design incorporates a fairly fine entry to part the waves and a somewhat broad stern for better stability. Bow and stern thrusters are also standard.
Owner-operators or owners who have crew (two crew cabins are accompanied by a crew galley with mess) will appreciate the availability of in-mast furling. The Oyster 885’s sail area with 140-percent foretriangle measures 4,823 square feet (448.03 square meters).
Following the boat show, the Oyster 885 will head to the Caribbean for the winter, then venture to the Pacific.
