In a place as spectacularly beautiful as the Italian Riviera, it seems unfair that there’s also such great shopping. But after you’ve enjoyed a plate of trofie al pesto, a couple of glasses of prosecco, and the view across the water of the brightly colored fishing boats and faded village houses, your “constitutional” can also ensure that your wardrobe is up to snuff.
The ancient, winding streets of Portofino are covered in glamorous, super high-end designer shops and the contrast between ultra modern retail and ancient fishing village is entertainment enough, if you want to resist the urge to splurge. Nearby Santa Margherita, which has a much larger port and a long waterfront shopping area, has plenty of deluxe shopping, but mixes in some more down-to-earth labels, too. And, never fear-both towns offer lots of souvenir opportunities.
