Heesen Yachts in the Netherlands has sold Project Maia, the first hull in the builder’s 50m Steel class, designed by Clifford Denn.
The 164-foot yacht has a displacement steel hull and is designed to come in at less than 500 gross tons. Twin MTU 8V 4000 M63 engines are expected to push her to a top speed of 15 knots, and give her a range of 3,800 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots.
Project Maia’s lines are reminiscent of iconic car designs. She has “Fisker whiskers” on the grille of her aft fashion plates, and her navigation lights are styled like the lights on classic cars.
Reymond Langton has been tapped for the interior, which will have light-bleached oak and stained walnut. Pale taupe leather and fabrics are specified.
Ten guests will be accommodated in five staterooms, including a main-deck master.
Delivery of Project Maia: It’s expected to follow sea trials in the North Sea in June 2018.
