The Duffield 58, a Doug Zurn Design, is scheduled to make her debut April 27-30 at the Newport In-Water Boat Show in California.
Zurn, who is based in Massachusetts, designed the Duffield 58 on request from Marshall “Duffy” Duffield, owner of the Duffy Electric Boat Co. Together, they wanted to improve on the traditional, West Coast-style oceangoing trawler.
“I wanted a traditional-looking boat that was proportionally correct and would still perform well while using much less fuel,” Duffield stated in a press release. “Doug’s designs looked right to me, and he emphasizes using modern, advanced composite materials for fast, comfortable cruising and fuel savings.”
Electric propulsion proved cost-prohibitive for the yacht, which instead has a single engine that transmits power through a Seatorque Control Boss Enclosed Shaft System. A Seakeeper stabilizer is standard, and Humphree interceptors help to maintain stability underway.
