After his sailboat was battered by high winds and seas 400 miles south of Cold Bay, Alaska, a French sailor was forced to activate his emergency location beacon. The U.S. Coast Guard dispatched a C-130 airplane to determine what type of aid needed to be rendered. Ultimately, they called on a nearby oil drilling ship, the Polar Pioneer, to assist. The Polar Pioneer sent one of its support vessels, the Tor Viking to rescue the sailor and his cat.
