Christies NY
On Monday, December 3, Sailors for the Sea, a nonprofit organization founded in 2004, organized an evening of cocktails, dinner, entertainment, as well as an auction to raise funds for its programs to educate and engage the boating community in the worldwide protection of the oceans. Paddles in hand, an elite group of philanthropists, clientele, and members of the sailing community raced towards vacation sites in the Maldives, Paris, and Venice, raising an incredible $779,350.
Additional highlights of the evening included opening remarks by Sailors for the Sea Founder and Board Chairman, David Rockefeller, Jr., and a panel discussion led by renowned broadcaster Charlie Rose with two of the world’s most prominent ocean advocates, Dr. Jane Lubchenco, Administrator of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, and Sir Russell Coutts, the most successful skipper in the history of the America’s Cup.
The remarkably successful charity auction was hosted at Christie’s in New York and allowed Sailors for the Sea to fund its ocean conservation programs, Clean Regattas and Rainy Day Kits. The organization was also able to give water filtration systems to community sailing programs affected by hurricane Sandy.
