Twin 480 hp Volvo Penta IPS650’s will quickly push the Marola, a 2020 Sabre 45’ Salon Express Yacht, to a max speed of almost 31 knots if you are trying to beat the weather or make that dinner reservation, but most of the time a leisurely 23.5-knot cruise speed is the way to go. The yacht’s modified-V hull form—with a 23-degree deadrise amidships and a 16-degree transom deadrise—flattened the bumps in a head sea and held steady in a beam sea, even when cranked to a wide-open throttle speed of 30.9 knots, as previously reported in Yachting.
The layout of the Marola consists of two staterooms with two full heads, a salon with a mid-galley, forward helm, and an aft deck with a U-shaped settee. The aft deck also has a Freedom tender lift, which holds its 2021 model AB 10-foot-6-inch tender with a 15 hp outboard motor.
The aft deck is where the cool kids should be riding on Marola. A U-shaped settee with a table should comfortably seat six guests in the open, out-on-the-water atmosphere. Pull out the retractable awning to help break up the sunshine, if the sun gets toasty. Lunch Time? Fire up the electric grill and cook a few hamburgers for guests as the captain readies the tender for a trip to a private beach.
Step through a glass door into the salon area where you will find yourself surrounded by windows on all sides, allowing natural light to flow freely through the salon, galley and helm spaces. Take a seat on the portside straight settee or the starboard side L-shaped settee behind a teak table with flip-down leaves. Stowage drawers can be found under both settees, and additional stowage space is available under the Stidd seats at the helm. Down a couple of steps into the half-galley, owners can easily entertain their guests using the following amenities:
- Kenyon Silken 2 induction stove
- Microwave/convection oven
- Isotherm refrigerator
- Vitrifrigo freezer
- Corian countertop in “Sand Storm”
- Sink w/Corian cover
Forward of the salon, is the helm with twin Ultraleather “Sea Horse” Stidd seats and footrests to keep the captain and a guest comfortable underway. Large windscreens and side windows give the captain an unobstructed view of the surrounding scene, and a side door gives the captain access to the starboard side deck when short-handed cruising. Invite additional guests up to the helm to be seated in the U-shaped cockpit/helm settee to help keep the captain entertained while piloting the vessel. The captain has access to the following electronics to keep the Marola safe and pointed in the proper direction:
- 2/Garmin 8607 Screens, GPS, radar, sounder
- Seakeeper display
- FLIR, optional upgrade
- ACR Searchlight, mounted on optional hardtop mast
- Kahlenberg dual horns, chrome
- GPS antenna (2)
As the evening out on the water comes to an end, the Marola has two staterooms, the master stateroom and guest stateroom, allowing owners and guests to rest peacefully during the night. The master stateroom has an island queen berth with two reading lights and a Samsung LCD TV. Plenty of stowage is available in the drawers beneath the queen berth, in drawers on both the port and starboard sides, and in a hanging locker. The guest stateroom has twin berths that convert to a double berth with reading lights and a Samsung LCD TV.
