Merriment, a 2014 Sabre 42 Salon Express, is rigged and ready to cruise the Great Loop cruise or head out across blue water. The Downeast yacht is listed with Jeff Brown Yachts and is asking $599,000.

Merriment is powered by twin 380 hp 6.7L Cummins diesels with Zeus pod drives and joystick system. When reviewing the Sabre 42 Express, Yachting explained that Zeus is the azipod drive system developed by ZF and Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, and Skyhook is the wonderful feature that allowed the boat to hold station. The magic comes from the built-in GPS that communicates with the computer governing Zeus’s behavior to hold the boat captive within its coordinates-give or take a few feet. No less thrilling is the way these pods enhance the 42’s maneuverability, at planing speed and in tight quarters, when the speeds are so slow that conventional rudders become useless. In docking mode, Zeus’s joystick lets you move the boat forward, backward and sideways. Merriment has a top speed of 33 knots and a comfortable cruise speed of 22 knots.

Owners can easily board Merriment from the swim platform. In the cockpit, there are two aft-facing cushioned benches, one to port and one to starboard, as well as an L-shaped settee with table at the transom, creating a convivial al fresco entertainment area. Three molded-in stairs, forward on each side of the cockpit, give access to the side decks, which lead to the foredeck where a few guests could work on their tan. Sturdy stainless-steel handrails and non-slip fiberglass soles are a couple of standard safety features on board.

Windows flanking Merriment’s pilothouse allow natural light to illuminate the area. Create an open-air vibe by opening up the door and windows to the cockpit, or keep it closed and climate-controlled if the weather goes south.  Thel has two Stidd captain’s chairs w/Ultraleather fabric and there’s an L-shaped settee with a folding-leaf main salon table just aft on the port side. This Sabre 42 has the following electronics and onboard systems setup:

  • Two Garmin GPSMap 7212 Chartplotters
  • West coast chart
  • Garmin GMR 24 HD Radar
  • Garmin VHF
  • Cummins DTS single-lever electronic controls
  • Triple windshield wipers with washers
  • Ritchie Compass
  • Switch controls for horn
  • Running lights, anchor light, engine room blower
  • Fuel-polishing system
  • Reverso oil-changing system

Down two steps from the pilothouse is Merriment’s mid-level galley. The galley is also illuminated with natural light that flows in from side windows. The L-shaped galley has a stainless-steel, under-mount sink as well as enough counter space for meal prep. There is a two-burner, touch-control electric stovetop and convection microwave. For extended cruising, there stowage space for dry goods in the cabinets and drawers in the galley, and cold stowage in the Vitrifrigo two-drawer refrigeration with stainless-steel doors and Isotherm one-drawer freezer with stainless steel door.

A few steps down from the galley are two staterooms for owners and guests to relax after a long day on the water. Owners can retire to the forepeak master stateroom with queen-sized berth. Stowage lockers and drawers provide plenty of room for clothes and accessories. Turn on the reading lamp and dive into a book or watch a little TV before falling into a deep sleep. The guest stateroom is located to starboard and forward of the galley. The double-sized berth has stowage drawers underneath it, and there is a nightstand with drawers, a forward bulkhead locker and shelves.

Jeff Brown Yachts stated that “The Sabre 42 Salon Express combines luxury, functionality, and timeless design, making it a favorite among boating enthusiasts. Expert design ensures satisfying performance at remarkably low sound levels. The yacht boasts timeless lines that won’t go out of style. With Zeus Pods everything has changed and nothing remains the same. The smaller engines—using vectored thrust—propel the boat at higher speeds using less fuel. And when maneuvering in tight spaces a joy stick makes child’s play of docking.”

Where is Merriment located? The yacht is currently lying in San Diego, California
