The Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht Escapade combines the Australian builder’s passion for sturdy seakeeping with some deluxe — dare we say European — touches, which was previously reported in Yachting. Escapade is my style of yacht. Not too big, not too small, and easy to navigate as an owner-operator. Based out of Australia, 45 percent of Riviera’s business are Australian citizens who prefer to change their own fuel filters, change their own oil and complete other regular maintenance tasks on their own.
What’s the best spot on Escapade? I prefer the helm. With near-360-degree views and top-notch navigation equipment, the 54-foot Escapade is a dream to handle. Twin 725 hp Volvo Penta diesel engines will quickly propel this yacht to a max speed of 33.1 knots, but 23 knots (about 2,100 rpm) is the most economical cruising speed, burning a respectable 51 gph. If I need to hold the boat in position while a bridge opens, Escapade features the Volvo Penta Dynamic Positioning System, which will hold its station with the touch of a button.
A 17.5 kW Cummins generator provides hotel-load energy when away from the dock and helps power the following systems and technology:
- Two 17″ Garmin MFD with 7″ Garmin Tied to Ignition Circuit
- Garmin Sounder Module
- Garmin Open Array Radar
- AIS
- FLIR Thermal Night Vision Camera
- Cameras to Engine Room, Cockpit Awning, and Anchor
- LED Underwater Lights
- Seakeeper 9 Gyrostabilizer
- Watermaker
- Siren Marine Tracking and Security System
Riviera says the foredeck sun pad is one of the 5400 Sport Yacht’s biggest selling attributes. Note the flip-up headrests. Yachting stated this is a Euro-style feature on deck, where the sun pad on the bow has enough room for two — or more, depending on how good of friends you are. As trends change with a younger generation entering the yachting market, buyers are looking for more outdoor-centric features such as the sun pad on the bow of Escapade. Load up a few of your friends, lay out and enjoy a cruise to a secluded beach.
If you prefer not to lounge in the direct sunlight, scoot back to the aft deck and salon area. There’s plenty of cushioned seating with an outdoor table, which is all covered to give passengers that outdoor feeling with a breeze, but less direct rays. Step through a sliding glass door into the salon where you will find exquisitely stitched leather, soft upholstery and light, and a satin-finish walnut interior throughout. The salon has plenty of seating, including a plush L-shaped settee to port with table. Don’t want to sit at the table, slide up to the next set of L-shaped upholstered seats, which allow you to sit right beside and enjoy the same views as the captain as you all take in the ocean vistas. Prepare lunch, or just a few snacks in the salon/aft galley without having to climb or descend any stairs. Fold open the rear glass window in the galley, and open the sliding glass door to open up the salon area with the aft deck and enjoy an evening of music and mingling.
Extra amenities on this boat also include:
- Two Cockpit Joysticks for a Total of Three
- Tropical Air Conditioning Package
- Cockpit Speaker Upgrade
- Drinking Water Purifier in Galley
- Electric High/Low Salon Table
- Three Cabin Layout
- Cockpit Awning
- Safe in Master Cabin
- Salon Side Window Covers
- Cockpit Drop Cover
- Triangular Quarter Clears in Cockpit
- Upholstery Upgrade to Cockpit and Bow Cushions
- Galleyware Package
- Satin Finish Walnut Interior
- Electric Capstans for Cockpit Corner Fairleads
Another highlight on Escapade is the full-beam amidships master stateroom with island king berth. A chaise longue to starboard makes for an inviting place to relax, while twin cedar hanging lockers spearhead the stowage efforts — which are quite strong, showing that this boat was built for longer stays and extended voyaging. A VIP queen berth and bunk beds allow plenty of room for four additional soles to comfortably sleep aboard Escapade.
Where is Escapade located? The yacht is currently lying in Stevensville, MD.
