Looking for a luxury cruising yacht with plenty of room to entertain guests, or a yacht with chartering capabilities too? Freudian Slip, a 2012 Princess Yachts 85, just came on the market at $2.89 million.
HMY Yachts stated that the 85-foot motor yacht is ideally suited for extended cruising. The vessel’s deep-V hull form, and the use of draft-reducing propeller tunnels, ensure superior seakeeping and handling, enabling guests to relax in comfort and style underway. The elegant layout provides the ultimate flexibility for enjoying life on deck, with a spacious teak-laid flybridge incorporating a fully equipped bar, hot tub, and generous seating and sunbed options.
When given the opportunity to review other Princess yachts in the past, Yachting reported the boatbuilder’s hulls for the entire Princess line were designed by naval architect Bernard Olesinski, and they have a comfortable, solid and reassuring seaworthiness under way. Princess Yachts embraces modern technology with full push-pull resin infusion throughout its yachts. It also does something very smart: Clear gelcoat is used below the waterline so that any voids or flaws can be seen as soon as the hull pops out of the mold. Clear gelcoat also makes it much easier if repairs are needed, since any damage is visible. Above the waterline, Princess uses PVC coring for strength and insulation from both temperature and sound.
Freudian Slip has a displacement of just over 154,000 pounds, and is powered with twin 1,900 hp Caterpillar C32 diesels, which can quickly push this yacht up to 30 knots. No reason to be in a hurry and miss all the views, throttle back to 24 knots or less for a comfortable cruise speed and increased fuel efficiency. Two Onan 27 kW generators power the Freudian Slip’s 24v DC/240v AC electrical system with Continental 220v/240v sockets with US converters, allowing owners to freely use all appliances in the galley, the air conditioning and amenities in the salon without any worries of voltage constraints.
Freudian Slip’s flybridge is accessible from a set of stairs on the aft deck, or via an internal set of stairs from the salon. The flybridge has plenty of room for dining and lounging with a wet bar/grilling station, C-shaped settee with table and additional chairs, U-shaped lounge with table to port of the helm and room for a tender on the after deck. The captain has access to two Furuno (3D-MFD 12) multifunction displays, Furuno Autopilot (Nav-Pilot), ABT-TRAC bow and stern thruster controls, CAT throttles and a Simrad RS90 VHF/AIS radio repeater when piloting the vessel from the flybridge helm. The main deck helm has the following navigational equipment and amenities:
- 2 x Furuno (3D-MFD 12) multifunction displays
- Furuno autopilot (Nav-Pilot)
- Furuno RP 33 GPS navigator
- Simrad RS 90 VHF/AIS radio
- CAT throttles
- ABT-TRAC stabilizer display
- ACR searchlight control
- ABT-TRAC bow and stern thruster controls
- ASEA power converter display
- Ship’s intercom system
Down a set of steps to the covered teak cockpit, there is a C-shaped settee with table and chairs, an ideal setup for alfresco entertaining. There’s also a wet bar and gates that lead down to the swim platform. Want a little sunshine but do not want to climb up to the flybridge? Owners and guests have a separate entertainment area on the foredeck where they will find a sofa and additional sunbathing platform.
Open up the triple sliding glass doors from the cockpit to enter the salon and dining area. Satin-finish walnut wood and a contemporary color scheme create a comfortable environment for owners and guests to kick back and relax after a day on the salt. The salon has a U-shaped seating area and entertainment center, including a 48-inch LCD TV that stows in the starboard sideboard. A dedicated dining table seats eight, surrounded by large windows that allow natural light to illuminate the salon and dining area, while allowing guests to have a panoramic view of the water. A starboard cabinet allows for plenty of stowage, including glass and bottle stowage.
Forward of the salon is the galley and helm area. The helm station has a large captain’s chair, and additional seating for guests who wish to join the captain while cruising. A U-shaped dinette to the starboard side of the helm is connected to both the galley and helm, which could be used by guests and/or crew. The galley has granite countertops, a full-size refrigerator with two freezer drawers, Miele 3-burner cooktop, Miele full-size oven, Panasonic microwave, double sink with garbage disposal, Miele dishwasher and enough stowage space for extended voyages. Guests have direct access to the port side deck from the galley, while crew has access to the starboard side deck from the lower helm.
After a long day on the water, owners and guests can retire to one of three staterooms belowdecks. The master stateroom has a centerline forward-facing king-sized berth, starboard-side settee with desk, portside vanity, 32-inch Samsung LCD TV, walk-in closet, shelved closet with drink refrigerator and a private head. The ensuite head has a heated Hauteville limestone sole, his-and-hers sinks, tub/shower combo, Vacu-flush toilet and bidet. The VIP stateroom has a queen-sized berth with vanity, walk-in shelved closet and a 24-inch Samsung LCD TV, and it shares a head with the guest stateroom. The guest stateroom has side-by side twin berths, shelved closet and a 24-inch Samsung LCD TV. The guest head also has a heated Hauteville limestone sole, large walk-in shower and Vacu-flush toilet.
Located aft of the engine room is a separate crew mess and two cabins for three people. The separate crew area is a key feature on this motor yacht, which allows for the option to charter.
