Atlantic Yacht and Ship currently has Surprise, a 2008 Offshore 62, listed for sale at $1.5 million. With a reported 800-plus-nautical-mile range and comfortable social spaces, the 62-foot long-range cruiser was built for an owner-operator looking to do extended cruising and entertaining along the way.
Construction on this bluewater-capable vessel includes hand-laminated, bidirectional fiberglass reinforced with vacuum-bagged corecell foam in the hull and structural areas above the waterline, unidirectional laminates at the engine stringers and hull door openings, double laminations at the chine, keel and running hardware locations, and four full-length longitudinal engine stringers and athwartships reinforcing stringers. The hull-to-deck connection is also mechanically fastened and bonded, and a vinylester hull laminate is applied for osmosis protection.
Satin-finish teak and light, neutral and grey tones pair with natural light from waist-to-ceiling windows to create a warm and inviting space. In the salon, the lounge area aft doubles as the formal dining space thanks to a hi-lo teak table. There’s an L-shaped sofa to port. Amidships, the mostly-open galley separates the salon from the wheelhouse forward.
Surprise’s galley has a full-size refrigerator and freezer, a microwave, an oven with a stove top, a trash compactor, a stainless-steel sink and stowage. There’s also side deck access via a door to port and a second door forward to starboard, helping owner-operators when shorthanded cruising.
The lower helm station has a single seat on the centerline. Directly to port is a U-shaped dinette in case guests want to keep the skipper company underway.
After the evening’s entertainment ends, four staterooms await belowdecks and sleep up to eight. The full-beam master stateroom amidships has a king berth and an en suite head. The forepeak VIP has a queen berth and an en suite head. Forward of the master is a second VIP stateroom which also has a queen berth and an en suite head. The final guest stateroom n is an office space that converts with bunk berths.
When the sun is setting, grab a sundowner and head to the foredeck where a four-person bench seat offers panoramic views. Side decks with high railings provide safe passage to the cockpit where guests can enjoy open and shaded alfresco spaces, furnished with whatever loose furniture the owner desires. A ladder to starboard leads to the flybridge where there’s an L-shaped dinette abaft the two-seat helm station. Beyond the hardtop, the after section of the flybridge is dedicated to the 2023 ULT 380 Ultra Lite Tender’s stowage and the Bauer 1,500-pound-capacity davit. There’s also a grill station.
Power is twin 865 hp Caterpillar C15 diesels, which give the 62-footer a 20-knot top hop and a 16-knot fast cruise. Slowing to a 10-knot cruise speed increases range to 800-plus nautical miles.
