Tranquility Base is a well-maintained 2006 Ocean Alexander 58 that has been kept inside a custom-built boat house, keeping it free from constant exposure to the elements. This owner-operator motoryacht is listed with Alexander Marine USA for $1.229 million.
“The 58 pilothouse was designed by the iconic Ed Monk Jr., who has been producing eye-pleasing, classic, seakindly pilothouse yachts for Ocean Alexander for almost three decades. Indeed, there are now more than 1,000 Ocean Alexanders cruising around the world; the current lineup goes from 42 to 98 feet. The new 58 pilothouse is a traditional three-stateroom, two-head design with lots of teak and luxury appointments that appeal to buyers who are used to the best, whether in their homes or their yachts, and who also, as Johnny says, want the independence of running the boat themselves. (With three staterooms, of course, there’s room for a crew, but the boat is really designed for the owner-operators of the world),” Yachting previously reported.
Powered by twin 700 hp Caterpillar C-12 diesel engines, Tranquility Base can hit 20 knots. But this yacht is not about speed, it’s about cruising in comfort. Dial it back to around 13 knots for a long-range cruise speed.
The 58’s salon has high-gloss Sakura wood with teak and Burl wood trim. Stepping inside the salon via a stainless-steel framed glass door from the cockpit, the custom exotic woodwork glows in the natural light, creating a warm, relaxing sensation. Recline in a leather loveseat to port or kick back on the sofa to starboard.
The galley is forward and to starboard, just abaft the helm on centerline. The U-shaped galley has plenty of counter space for food prep, and it’s equipped with an electric cooktop, oven and microwave. Stow your cold goods in the oversized refrigerator/freezer and other galley accessories in an array of cabinets. Forward and to port is a dinette, allowing guests to have their meals with a view while keeping the skipper company.
Tranquility Base has two helm stations. There is the climate-controlled lower helm and a flybridge helm shaded by the factory hardtop. During inclement weather conditions, the flybridge has a canvas enclosure with vents for air flow. This Ocean Alexander 58 Pilothouse has the following navigation and electronics setup:
Lower Helm
- Raymarine 1500 multifunction monitor for ships computer
- Raymarine E120 repeater
- Raymarine autopilot
- ZF electronic controls for transmission
- Throttle key power bow and stern thruster controls
- Caterpillar LCD computerized monitoring system
- 13″ Garmin multifunction display
Flybridge
- E120 Raymarine radar and multi function display radar/chartplotter
- Raymarine autopilot
- VHF radio
- Caterpillar dual screen LCD displays
- 12″ Garmin multifunction display with GPS and chartplotter
Primary access to the flybridge is via a set of steps in the cockpit. Guests can relax in a U-shaped settee that is shaded by the hardtop or join the captain in one of two Stidd helm chairs. (There is aso internal stair access from the lower helm station.)
Guests can enjoy the open air and sweeping views from the flybridge, or on the foredeck for those seeking a little more quiet time. Dive in and take a dip off the swim platform, or launch the tender out to find your own private beach for lunch shoreside.
After a long day on the water, retire to one of three staterooms. The exotic-wood theme extends into the master stateroom with high- gloss Sakura and burl wood finishes. Wood pillars, large mirrors and a queen-size berth create a cozy, homelike feeling. Owners have an en suite head and more than enough stowage space with under-berth drawers, chest drawers and full-length hanging lockers. Guests will feel spoiled in the forepeak VIP with a queen-size berth, entertainment center and a full-length hanging locker. The third guest stateroom has side-by-side twin berths with full-length hanging lockers. A head with a full-size shower is located across from the third guest stateroom.
Alexander Marine stated that “This spacious three-stateroom, two-head vessel will cradle you in comfort and elegance…Year round climate-controlled comfort will allow you to extend your cruising grounds. All the while you will find that the quality shines through.”
