With the ability to deliver home-size volumes in an owner-operator footprint, deliver a solid bluewater ride, speed when desired and long range for cruising enthusiasts, power catamarans have hit the mainstream yachting audience in a big way in recent years. And this Horizon Power Catamarans 52 called Bonkers can do all of the above.
Bonkers is listed with The Powercat Company for $1.595 million. The 2016 build can sleep six thanks to its three-stateroom layout.
This open-water capable powercat has one-piece hull lamination and longitudinal stringers for added backbone, and the hull is built with the trademarked SCRIMP process for improved strength without added weight. It also has a high-density, foam-cored construction for the bottom and topsides, solid fiberglass laminate for the stem and keel, and high-density foam-cored stringers for the power cat’s Cummins diesels. For strength with reduced top weight, Horizon Power Catamarans uses foam-cored reinforcement in the deck and superstructure. Bonkers also had an international anti-fouling bottom paint job with an anti-osmosis treatment in 2023.
Twin 550 hp Cummins QSB 6/7 diesel engines power Bonkers, delivering an economical cruising speed of 8 knots, an 18-knot typical cruise speed and a 21-knot top-end speed. The 52-foot power cat will see a 400-nautical-mile range at 18 knots, a 1,000-nautical-mile range at 8 knots and a maximum range of 1,780 nautical miles at just under 5 knots. The PC52 also has a 4-foot-6-inch minimum draft making it accessible to skinny-water waypoints.
This power cat is also focused on entertaining onboard. Serving guests in the cockpit and the salon is easy with a galley-aft arrangement. The galley has Corian countertops and custom accent wood finishes. Appliances include:
- Double sinks with Faucet and disposal.
- Sub-Zero 700TCI fridge and freezer drawers
- Fisher Paykel dishwasher
- GE Avantium oven and microwave
- Four-burner propane cooktop
- Extractor fan above cooktop
Forward, the salon has a five-person dinette to starboard and a lounge chair to port. Three stools are pulled up to the galley’s countertop bar for pre-cruise breakfast and coffee.
Belowdecks, the master stateroom is in the starboard hull with a queen berth and en suite head. The owners’ space also has high-gloss walnut with a shiplap feature for added elegance. The VIP stateroom is forward in the port hull, also with a queen berth. However, the port head separates the VIP stateroom and the third amidships guest stateroom, which has single berths that convert to a queen berth with an insert.
Alfresco dining spaces on board Bonkers are found in the cockpit and on the flybridge. The cockpit has space for eight guests for meals at the fixed teak table with loose chair seating as well as the curved transom bench seat.
The flybridge has a centerline Stidd-chair helm station with bench seat, lounge pad to starboard and C-shaped dinette to port. A bar and grill is abaft the bench seat to starboard with a six-person Corian table The after section of the flybridge has the space for the power cat’s 14-foot AB Tender with a 40 hp Yamaha and the E800 Hydraulic Crane.
