255-foot yacht Lone Ranger
Lone Ranger, the 255-foot expedition superyacht owned by Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, was sold in April at the first-ever Prestige Yacht Auction at the Antibes Yacht Show.
According to multiple reports, Lone Ranger originally was listed for sale on the brokerage market at $20 million, and then had a price reduction to $14 million. Estimates for bids prior to the Antibes auction ranged from $10 million to $3 million. The final sale price was not released by Prestige Yacht Auction, which handled the bidding process.
The sale of Lone Ranger at auction was hailed as an up-and-coming method for selling superyachts on the brokerage market.
Lone Ranger was built by Schichau Unterwesser in 1973. She was converted into a superyacht during major refits in 1994 and 1997. She has circumnavigated the world several times, including trips to Antarctica and the Arctic. Her range at 12 knots is 31,000 miles—more than the circumference of the planet—with a fuel capacity of 34,342 gallons.
